Humble sits in northeast Harris County, just twenty minutes from downtown Houston, covering just ten square miles. The city was founded by Pleasant Smith Humble, or Plez, in 1886. Pleasant operated a ferry across the San Jacinto River, and other businesses flocked to the area due to the amount of timber in the region.
Oil production came to humble, turning the town into a tent city. But in the early 1900s, the oil field in Humble was the largest in Texas, and The Humble Oil and Refining Company was born. Incorporated in the 30s, the city didn’t see much growth until the construction of Houston Intercontinental Airport in 1969.
Humble is now home to several large corporations and retailers. Humble is a welcoming community for families with a mall, civic center, and exceptional schools. It is also home to The DeLorean Company, made famous for the car’s appearance in the 80s film Back to the Future.
One of the oldest mainstay’s in Humble is Old McDonalds Farm, featuring a petting zoo and exotic animals. Residents enjoy Deerbrook Mall with over 130 shops and the dining options surrounding the mall in the FM 1960 and US 59 area. Families can spend weekends at the four city parks that offer walking trails, playgrounds, and more.
