Frequently Asked Questions
There are two keys to a stress free move – timing and planning. It is important to start the process as early as possible. Even when you have to deal with a last minute move, planning is important. When you have a plan set in place and diligently follow it you can rest assured that you have handled everything necessary for a smooth moving process.
Get everyone in the household involved in the move from the first stages of planning. Make sure that everyone has a role. Using the The Ultimate Moving Checklist is a great way to ensure that your move involves the least amount of stress as possible.
Often, the cost of the moving company is the largest expense you will have when moving from one place to another. Ensure that your movers are licensed and insured. Find out how long the moving company has been in business and discuss with them their processes. Ask them about any specific tools and equipment they use. If you have any large or delicate pieces, make sure you discuss their experience in handling these pieces before choosing a company.
Keep in mind that you are not obligated to tip your movers, but the professionals that handle your belongings with care would appreciate the acknowledgement of a job well done. So by all means, feel free to tip those movers that provide you with good service.
When trying to establish how much is appropriate, consider the condition of the move. Did they have to overcome obstacles like tight spaces, long staircases, or steep walkways? Were the moving a 2 bedroom home or a 5 bedroom home? The standard tip for movers is 10% to 15% of the total move, though any amount is much appreciated.
Using the services of a professional moving company provides peace of mind. When you have a ton of things on your plate, it may be better to leave the heavy lifting and strategic planning of a move to the people who do this on a daily basis. The training and experience provides them with techniques that make moving an entire house a seamless process.
Blue Ox Moving and Storage offers packing services that take all of this off of your shoulders. But if you are going to embark upon this task on your own, remember to purge before you start to pack. Donate items or have a garage sale to lighten your load. Purchase the appropriate boxes and begin to pack – getting a little bit done every day. Make sure you pack a bag of the things you will need in the last couple of days in your home and the first few days in your new home. Clearly label your boxes and properly wrap fragile items.
Trusting your belongings to a novice is not the best idea. When you want to ensure a smooth move and that your belongings are intact when you reach your new home, choose a moving company with the expertise to deliver this caliber of move.
Packing professionals are there to pack your belongings in an organized fashion in a way that will make sure they don’t get damaged during the move. These professionals will communicate with you and label everything so that you will know where everything is when you arrive at your new home.
Ask your friends, family, realtor or leasing agent for referrals. Then check reviews and their status with the Better Business Bureau. You can also check with individual moving companies for anyone you can speak to about their experience with the company.
It depends on your exact circumstances. Your moving company should be able to give you a detailed quote that will cover all costs including any special items that need to be handled with extra care. Your moving company will factor in the distance, number of pieces, and any additional services required.

With our years of experience, we have the resources and knowledge to complete your move more efficiently than if you go at it alone. Save yourself the headache and let us carry the load!
